ION Alberta Lunch Meeting and Election – Wednesday, November 27, 2019

Paul Alves was elected ION Alberta Section chair. Kyle O’Keefe, John Schleppe, and Landon Urquhart were re-elected as vice-chair, treasurer, and secretary, respectively.

Mr. Yi-Fen Tseng gave a presentation on Multi-Band, Multi-System GNSS SoC for Mass Market: New Era of Precise Positioning.

Abstract: Driven by autonomous vehicle development, precise positioning has become a hot topic in recent years. High precision GNSS is not new, but bulky device size, high power consumption, and expensive cost makes this technique not able to adopt into mass market. The main challenge in precise GNSS is to provide affordable, scalable, and reliable solution that can be used in automotive, smartphone, or drone applications. This talk will discuss about some of the important issues leading to the success of high precision GNSS in mass market and will share about ALLYSTAR’s achievements and future plans in multi-band multi-system GNSS solution.

Speaker: Mr. Yi-Fen Tseng, Deputy General Manager of Allystar Technology

Yi-Fen Tseng is the Deputy General Manager (Vice President) at ALLYSTAR. In this role, Yi-Fen is responsible for company’s long-term technology vision, product roadmap planning and engineering development. Yi-Fen is the head of marketing team, with responsibilities including the oversight of marketing strategy, the company’s product management, and the collaboration research programs with universities. He is also leading the engineering team to create world leading multi-band GNSS chip and module products for smartphone, autonomous vehicle, and wearable applications.

Prior to joining ALLYSTAR, Yi-Fen served seven years as the GNSS architect and MCU product marketing director in Fujitsu where he developed GNSS products and managed application-specific MCU product prototyping. Before Fujitsu, He was consultants of GNSS technologies for several companies in Germany and Taiwan.

Yi-Fen has 19 years of experience in the GNSS with domain expertise in the multi-band multi-system GNSS chip architecture, positioning algorithms, and the strategic partnership with 3rd parties. He holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University. Yi-Fen’s greatest strength is his creativity and leadership. He thrives on challenges, particularly those that can expand possibilities to realities.
