ION Alberta Intro to Orienteering Clinic – Saturday May 14, 2022

For a change from 2 years of virtual meetings, on Saturday May 14, 2022 the ION Alberta Section participated in an introduction to the sport of orienteering that was hosted by the Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club. Eight members spent two hours on Saturday morning learning how to read maps and run between waypoints. No GPS allowed! Timing is managed by a set of RFID readers with synchronized clocks. The club hosts weekly evening events on Wednesdays.

ION Alberta Virtual Meeting – Thursday November 25, 2021

Three Unversity of Calgary Student Papers from ION GNSS+ 2021 were presented. ION GNSS+ is the worlds largest technical meeting on GNSS positioning and technology. Each year the University of Calgary sends multiple students who present award winning research on their respective topics.

ION Alberta AGM and Election followed by ION Webinar – Tuesday, March 23, 2021

The Alberta section of the Institute of Navigation held its AGM and election before joining the Mars Perseverance Rover Webinar hosted by the Institute of Navigation National Office.  Paul Alves was re-elected chair, Yang Gao elected vice-chair, Kyle O’Keefe elected treasurer, Landon Urquhart re-elected secretary, and Paul Gratton elected outreach
